Our
Story
Almost
Heaven opened its door to the public in September of 1997. We started out with
two rooms (very tight accommodations!) and a Law office rented our other space.
During the next several years the business grew and we needed the extra room.
The Law office moved across the street. We opened a door thru the wall and put
in a ramp to what is now the rest of the shop.
My parents, Lyle and John supplied me with inspiration, free labor and,
more than occasionally, a kick in the pants. Lyle is still my major helper,
shopping companion, furniture mover, and detailer. My father John has moved on
to new adventure, not part of his plans or desires, but one he could not
control. He still urges me on to do new things with my life and not to worry
about falling flat on my face. I thank my lucky stars
everyday!
Jim, my husband, became part of my everyday life October 13, 2001. He
copes with the demands of living within the same four walls as the shop and our
four cats. His main job is to try keeping my invasive garden from completely
smothering us.
In the latter part of 2008, I traded in my employment at the Trump Taj
Mahal Casino (working swing shift) to working at the hospital (day shift), hence
our change in hours.
We have always tried to have new and interesting items in the shop. Some
is handmade here in the USA, some not. We try to accommodate our customers in
anyway we can and are happy to call many of you
“friend”.
We continue on exploring new ideas and hopes. While you explore our
website, our blog, our Etsy, know you are welcome to call us [the answering
machine is always on and I return calls!]. If you need something
special---ask!
